After many years dormant, it looks like Friday the 13th is beginning to rise from the dead, with San Diego's Comic-Con yesterday bringing a new look at Mike P. Nelson's short Sweet Revenge – plus confirmation of a new movie and game in development in the hands of Horror Inc.'s Jason Universe.
Featuring on the Jason Universe panel alongside Nelson were Horror Inc. Vice President Robbie Barsamian and CMO Sheri Conn, with Mondo senior creative director Peter Santa Maria moderating. Hype was high for at least a tease of a new Friday the 13th feature after 16 years without one, and the panel did not disappoint.
Thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting, who drew our attention to this news earlier today, you can check out the full video below where Barsamian confirms the good news:
โI can tell you that a new sequel movie and new sequel game are at the top of our list. Itโs where most of our energyโs going right now. And I can tell you finally weโre in a position to deliver on that […] While weโre not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. Theyโre both in the works and theyโre both coming.โ
No news yet on which movie or game the new Friday the 13th projects will be sequels to, but whatever the case we're excited. The news, along with the upcoming Crystal Lake prequel series from Brad Caleb Kane A24, serves as a welcome balm for those Jason fans who have watched other slasher franchises like Halloween and Scream get the sequel treatment over the last few years.
Needless to say, we'll bring you any and all updates on any new Jason Universe projects. Stay tuned.
