Crystal Lake has found its Jason Voorhees, with Callum Vinson (Chucky) joining the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series from Peacock and A24.
Vinson joins previously announced star Linda Cardellini, who'll be leading the series as Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees. William Catlett, as a character named Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as Briana Brooks, Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, and Cameron Scoggins in a legacy role as Officer Dorf are also set to star.
Specifics regarding the plot remain totally under wraps but we do know that Crystal Lake, which has Brad Caleb Kane (the upcoming It: Welcome to Derry ) serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer, will flesh out the story of Cardellini's Mrs. Voorhees, a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child, and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.
The eight-episode series, which does not yet have a release date, has episodes directed by Michael Lennox (Derry Girls), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (The Pitt). According to Kane's slate, Lennox seems to be handling Episode 1, with Maceo Bishop (Uncut Gems, The Curse) handling cinematography. Crystal Lake is executive produced by A24, Kane, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian and Stuart Manashil.
While the reveal that Crystal Lake‘s Jason is a young boy obviously makes perfect sense within the narrative, the news still comes as a little surprise for those of us who (for better or for worse) recall visions of the hulking masked grown man maniac whenever the name Voorhees is mentioned. Nevertheless, it'll be very exciting to see where this new iteration of Jason takes the character.
Look out for more on Crystal Lake as we get it, and for more on Friday the 13th here's what we know about Mike P. Nelson's upcoming short, Sweet Revenge.
