Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch star Zach Galligan has given a promising update on Gremlins 3, saying that a third entry in the kooky comedy horror series is still very much en route from Warner Bros.
Per GamesRadar, reporting from Manchester's Comic-Con where Galligan (who played the lead role of Billy Peltzer in both previous films) confirmed the good news, the wheels are turning on Gremlins 3, but it is still awaiting the approval of executive producer Steven Spielberg:
โAfter 35 years, theyโve come up with a script […] Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it, apparently itโs waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it. But you can thank the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice racked up $451.9 million at the global box office upon release in September 2024 (with a third movie officially greenlit) so it's no wonder that Warner Bros. want to take advantage of the ongoing nostalgia trend and hopefully get themselves another box office hit based on a classic 1980s IP.
According to first reports from January of this year, Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Joe Dante-directed 1984 Gremlins, was allegedly at the helm of Gremlins 3 with a script he's been teasing since 2017. However, Warner Bros. has yet to officially confirm or deny this.
Look out for more on Gremlins 3 as we get it.
