Fresh off of this year's Until Dawn, Gary Dauberman's Coin Operated is turning its eye to another video game adaptation with a feature film take on The Medium, the 2021 psychological horror game from Bloober Team.
A writer and director has yet to be confirmed, with Dauberman (writer of It, Annabelle, The Nun) and Mia Maniscalco producing the adaptation through Coin Operated.
Set in the post-communist era of Poland in the 1990s, The Medium is visually inspired by the works of dystopian surrealist artist Zdzisลaw Beksiลski, and follows the titular psychic medium, named Marianna, who is called to unravel the mystery of the death of an innocent child. The game received mostly positive reviews upon release, and turned a profit from initial sales across consoles.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, who reported the news late yesterday, Dauberman had this to say of working on a big screen take on The Medium:
โWith its compelling story and incredibly cinematic visuals, The Medium is a natural for a feature film adaptation […] When I talked to Piotr [Babieno, Bloober CEO] about it, we immediately connected on our mutual love of horror and his vision for where the genre is headed. I have no doubt anything Bloober develops is going to push horror forward in unique and terrifying ways, and Iโm excited to be working alongside them,โ
The Krakรณw-based Bloober Team was behind last year's successful Silent Hill 2 remake and the recently announced Silent Hill 1 remake, as well as the upcoming original horror game Cronos: The New Dawn.
Coin Operated is also currently in development on He Never Dies from Brightburn director David Yarovesky, and Human Remains, a new horror picture written by The Den director Zachary Donohue.
