The upcoming television series based on Eli Roth's Hostel has found a home at Peacock and is currently in development, per a new report from Variety.
Noted horror lover and Golden Globe-winner Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) is set to star in what has been described as a โreinventionโ of the horror franchise that launched in 2005 and spawned two sequels. Roth will direct, and co-write the series along with franchise producer Chris Briggs. Roth, Briggs and Mike Fleiss (Hostel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) will also executive produce.
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but if the Hostel series is set to follow the first movie, it will presumably center on three backpackers who head to a Slovak city with hedonistic expectations, only to fall prey to a mysterious group known as the Elite Hunting Club who want nothing more than to torture and kill unsuspecting tourists.
Giamatti's involvement in a grisly horror project is long overdue – the Oscar nominee has previously cited The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as one of his favorite movies and has expressed a desire to get involved with the genre.
Peacock will also play host to another highly-anticipated series based on an iconic horror series with the upcoming Crystal Lake, with the Friday the 13th prequel series currently filming. Look out for more on Hostel as we get it.
