Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein hits Netflix and (thankfully) also theaters in November, with Vanity Fair today unveiling some first-look images of the gloriously Gothic classic monster movie that preview stars Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth in action, as well as a first proper look at Jacob Elordi's Creature.
Starring alongside Isaac, Goth and Elordi in the R-rated adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic sci-fi novel are Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
Del Toro's Frankenstein is a passion project decades in the making for the Shape of Water director, who gives VF the ever-eloquent promise below that his take on the iconic story will be a uniquely del Toro experience.
We are just doing a beautiful mass. The church is not built by us, but we are delivering a great, passionate soul-searing sermon in that church […] Karloff looms eternal. Bernie looms eternal. But we are not doing Karloff and weโre not doing Bernie, and weโre not doing Mary. But Iโll say this: Mary Shelley and Bernie Wrightson and Karloff are as important to me as my father and mother. They gave birth to who I am, period.โ
This, of course, isnโt the first time a filmmaker has attempted to tackle Shelleyโs seminal story of death and rebirth, and it's not even the first we've got a look at this year – Maggie Gyllenhaalโs upcoming The Bride! is set to release in March of 2026, and stars Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Penรฉlope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening.
