Four weekends into its run and Jurassic World Rebirth cannot be stopped. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, The Creator), the seventh entry in the Jurassic franchise passed another major milestone, even as Marvelโs The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened to a whopping $218 million globally, including $118 million domestically. Welcome to the $700 million club.

Rebirth, which stars the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, pulled in an estimated $13 million in North America over the weekend, which was good enough for number three on the charts behind Superman ($24.8 million) and Fantastic Four. With another $23.5 million collected overseas, that now brings Edwardsโ latest to $718.3 million globally.
It turns out that people still really love dinosaurs, it seems. This certainly appears to be a rebound from Jurassic World Dominion. Though that movie made $1 billion globally, it was met with the worst reviews in the history of the series. Meanwhile, word of mouth for this latest entry has been rather strong. Had this been another critical disaster, we'd be having a very different conversation right now.
With that, Rebirth is the fourth biggest movie of 2025 overall, trailing only Ne-Zha 2 ($2.2 billion), Lilo & Stitch ($1.01 billion) and A Minecraft Movie ($955.1 million). It's also got gas left in the tank, plenty to at least get it past $800 million globally. How much higher it will climb before all's said and done remains to be seen. Even so, there are still going to be those who question just how successful this movie is when compared to its predecessors.
On the one hand, all of the other Jurassic World movies made at least $1 billion globally. On the other hand, very few movies during the pandemic era have made $700 million or more. The list of movies that can open to $300 million or more globally these days is very small. Against an over/under $180 million production budget, even if this movie didn't make another dime, any studio would take these returns. That's to say nothing of the rich merchandising opportunities this particular franchise brings with it.
In short, this is an absolute win for Universal. The only real question is when the studio announces another sequel. What shape will that take? Will Edwards be back in the director's chair? These are questions for another time.
