The Strangers are back for more, and they arenโ€™t letting poor Madelaine Petsch catch a break. Lionsgate has just released a new trailer for the upcoming The Strangers: Chapter 2, the next chapter in the rebooted home invasion horror series, and itโ€™s ramping up the action โ€” and the gore โ€” for the former Riverdale star.

Premiering on September 26 โ€” the release date originally held by the troubled Saw XI โ€” the film is set to be directed by Renny Harlin, from a script by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, with producers Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham, and Charlie Dombek.

โ€œI promise that weโ€™re making The Strangersโ€”Chapter 2 as terrifying as possible, and I canโ€™t wait to show you on September 26,โ€ Madelaine Petsch previously said of the film, with producers Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton adding, “Like Strangers fans everywhere, weโ€™re thrilled for Chapter 2 โ€” itโ€™s the kind of film thatโ€™ll have audiences watching through their fingers. Bringing it to theaters this Halloween season feels perfect, and we canโ€™t wait for everyone to see where the story goes next.”

The Strangers originally began as a standalone home invasion horror film in 2008, written and directed by Bryan Bertino โ€” supposedly โ€œbased on a true story,โ€ though that was later debunked โ€” and starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. It was followed up by a sequel, The Strangers: Prey at Night, in 2018, starring Christina Hendricks and Lewis Pullman, before the series was โ€œrelaunchedโ€ with the new trilogy that began last year with The Strangers: Chapter 1

The Strangers: Chapter 2, also starring Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath, premieres in theaters on September 26. Check out the new trailer below:
