Top Horror Movies Streaming This Week

Originally, 28 Days Later was scheduled to leave Pluto TV the week before the release of the newest film in the series, 28 Years Later, but the decision was made to keep the film on streaming, which was a great idea. Fans and those who may have never seen it before are clearly refreshing their memories or checking it out for the first time, which has propelled the film to the top spot.

Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns, and Brendan Gleeson star as the few survivors of the destruction of London who are trying to find a safe place amid the rage virus apocalypse after being abandoned when Great Britain was evacuated.

28 Days Later is now streaming on Pluto TV.

Hot on the heels of the original film, 28 Weeks Later has captured second place on this week's list. While many are debating the new direction of the series in 28 Years Later, many have chosen to give the series a second look. Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo took over directing duties for this installment, which is about a NATO attempt to resettle Great Britain.

This standalone film stars the all-new cast of Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Mackintosh Muggleton, Imogen Poots, and Idris Elba with a thrilling opening sequence.

28 Weeks Later is now streaming on Hulu.

Elisabeth Sparkle never gives up, and neither does the film recounting her struggle to reclaim her fame, Coralie Fargeat's The Substance.  The astounding body horror comedy still has the juice and refuses to go quietly into the night. Fans still want to get their fill of this bloody celebrity nightmare.

Demi Moore, who was Academy Award-nominated and won the Golden Globe for this role of a lifetime, the gorgeous and talented Margaret Qualley, and the hilarious Dennis Quaid, keep bringing audiences back for more.

The Substance is now streaming on Mubi.

While there are many louder and more flashy selections on this list, this quiet and thoughtful ghost story, from director Steven Soderbergh, is also still battling it out on the list. It is a psychological thriller that does more with less, letting the audience's imagination fill the gaps.

Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, West Mulholland, and Julia Fox are the cast who give solid performances that support the haunting script by David Koepp.

Presence is now streaming on Hulu.

Musician and director Flying Lotus' second film is Ash. A tense space horror film that explores what happened after an astronaut awakens on a space station on the empty world Ash, to find her crew dead. She doesn't remember what happened and must piece together the truth as it begins to reveal itself to her.

Eiza González, Aaron Paul, Iko Uwais, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, and Flying Lotus himself star as the friends and the love that Ryia lost along with her memory in this stylish science fiction film.

Ash is now streaming on Shudder.

Usually, the saying is that sometimes Christmas comes in July, but since it's June, we'll have to just say that the holidays are visiting early summer this year. Out of nowhere, the 2024 Christmas horror hit Terrifier 3 has leapt back into the top ten with all its gory clown glory.

David Howard Thornton, as iconic horror villain Art the Clown, Lauren LaVera, as final girl Sienna Shaw, Elliott Fullam, and Samantha Scaffidi star in the third film in the series that dives deeper into the mythos of Art.

Terrifier 3 is now streaming on Screambox.

For all of its gruesome imagery and terrifying body horror, which is still grossing people out to this day, there is a very tender soul at the film's center in the misunderstood ugly stepsister, Elvira. The satirical nature of the film can also elicit rancid giggles as Elvira fights to become the most beautiful of them all to please a handsome but distinctly unpleasant prince.

Norwegian director Emilie Blichfeldt's disturbingly hilarious tale stars Lea Myren, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Ane Dahl Torp, and Flo Fagerli.

The Ugly Stepsister is now streaming on Shudder.

There's nothing quite like Final Destination, and it's got one of horror's greatest set pieces/opening sequences, especially for those with a fear of flying. It's hard to believe that it took that long for someone to make a horror movie where death is the killer, but wisely, screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick did.

Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, and Tony Todd star in this creepy film that takes our daily fears and annoyances and makes them so much more frightening.

Final Destination is now streaming on HBO Max.

As the release date of the hotly anticipated sequel to M3GAN approaches, it's clear that people want more of our favorite deadly robot in their eyeballs. M3GAN 2.0 is scheduled to open on Friday, so people were getting a head start last week.

Written by Akela Cooper with a campy flair, this is the story of a child orphaned by a car wreck who goes to live with her emotionally remote roboticist aunt, who creates a robot playmate to support her niece in her grief. Allison Williams and Violet McGraw star in the film, while Amie Donald and Jenna Davis join forces to create the character of the viciously protective killer android.

M3GAN is now streaming on Starz.

Another, more quiet film rounds out the top ten, in the form of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods' Heretic. While there is less blood and overt mayhem in this film, that doesn't mean that it isn't filled with dread. Watching two trusting young Mormon missionaries who only want to do what their religion requires them to do find themselves trapped by their assumption that people chills to the bone.

It is a battle of wits and faith as Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East battle with that perniciously charming man, Hugh Grant.

Heretic is now streaming on HBO Max.
