I Know What You Did Last Summer

Despite the fact that seemingly no one asked for a reboot of the cult classic I Know What You Did Last Summer, Deadlineโ€™s reporting that the filmโ€™s cast continues to grow, including a Gen Z sensation. The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung has boarded the film, trading an ideal summer vacation for a deadly one as she joins previously announced cast members Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.

Tung and Cline come from similar origins, both having starred in beachy series popular with younger audiences โ€” Cline starred in Outer Banks before moving on to films like Glass Onion โ€” but the former isnโ€™t the only one whoโ€™s joined the cast. The reboot has also added Austin Nichols, best known for his work in One Tree Hill and The Walking Dead, American model Gabbriette, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, whoโ€™s been climbing the horror ranks recently with his appearances in Ryan Murphyโ€™s shows Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie

In even more exciting news, the reboot is expected to bring back two iconic faces from the original 1997 film: Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jessica Love Hewitt, the latter of whom is in negotiations to reprise her role. Both starred alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar (Prinzeโ€™s now wife) and Ryan Phillipe in the film based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, which was successful enough to spawn a 1998 sequel starring Brandy and Jeffrey Combs, as well as a direct-to-DVD threequel in 2006 that performed significantly less well.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is set to be directed by Do Revenge helmer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, from a script co-written by her and Sam Lansky. Itโ€™s the second attempt to bring the franchise back to life for a modern audience, after the failed Prime Video series that only lasted a single season and diverged from the original novel and the cult films.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot will premiere on July 18, 2025.
