Fresh off of crossing a major milestone at the global box office, Danny Boyle's post-apocalyptic summer horror hit 28 Years Later is coming to Digital today, July 29, with a physical media release to follow in September.
Returning for the sequel to both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later are original director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, with Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, newcomer Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, and Jack O'Connell leading the cast as survivors of the Rage Virus that ravaged Britain almost three decades prior:
Itโs been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected [โฆ] One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
The distinctly British horror movie marks the start of a brand-new trilogy, with Nia DaCosta's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple currently set for a January 16, 2026 release. The third as-of-now untitled entry, set to be directed by Boyle again, is dependent on 28 Years Later‘s financial success. Hopefully, being the biggest zombie box office hit in years will get those producers' pockets tingling.
