Jurassic World Evolution 3 - Frontier Developments

Generative AI is taking over the world in a lot of ways and it’s starting to creep into media. That doesn’t sit will with a lot of folks, myself included. As such, I was rather bummed when I learned that the upcoming Jurassic World Evolution 3 was going to use AI to render portraits of the scientists in the game. It turns out, I wasn’t the only one. Seemingly, the backlash has caused Frontier Developments to change course.

As noted by the folks at GameWatcher, the use of generative AI in the game was first confirmed via a disclosure on Steam on the game’s page. Fans then voiced their concerns online rather loudly. That got the attention of the developers. The outlet got official confirmation from the folks at Frontier directly that they have indeed decided to remove these AI elements from the game following the backlash. The company released the following statement:

“We have removed the use of generative AI for scientists portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3 following some initial feedback. The team are continuing their diligent work on the game and are very much looking forward to launching on 21 October.”

If I may? Hell yeah. The first trailer for Jurassic World Evolution 3 that debuted at Summer Game Fest was very encouraging. I was an enormous fan of the first two games and, for those who may not know, it’s basically Zoo Tycoon, but with dinosaurs. You get to build your own dino theme parks, with various modes to explore. The third game is making some big improvements, including adding baby dinos and much more.

That being the case, it’s a relief that Frontier has backed off of using AI. We can all now just enjoy the game on its own terms when it arrives later this year. As for what to expect from the game more specifically? Frontier’s official description reads as follows:

Jurassic World Evolution 3 puts you in control of building and running your very own Jurassic World. Help life find a way by synthesising, breeding, and nurturing prehistoric species. Manage each species and allow them to thrive, while helping your dinosaurs raise families and pass their genes onto future generations.

Create incredible havens for your dinosaurs to help them flourish, build exciting new attractions to amaze guests, and maintain control when disaster inevitably strikes. With over 80 awe-inspiring pre-historic species, 75 of which allow you to manage, breed and nurture families of dinosaurs across entire generations. Rear them from playful juveniles into awe-inspiring adults, each with distinct female, male, and juvenile variants.

Park guests will marvel as these majestic creatures socialise and react to the vibrant world around them. Manage unique social needs and observe brand new behaviours, with semi-aquatic dinosaurs venturing into deep water and pterosaurs walking on land.”

Elsewhere in the world of dinosaurs, Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theaters in early July, which is aiming to be the start of a new era for the movies. We’ve also got the long awaited single-player game Jurassic Park: Survival in the works, though that likely isn’t going to arrive until sometime in 2026 at this point.
