Capcom has unveiled a brand new look at Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline game in the iconic survival horror series set to release on February 27, 2026.
In a special Capcom Spotlight event streamed last night, director Koshi Nakanishi, art director Tomonori Takano and producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa gave fans a sneak peek at gameplay footage, as well as further exploring more on the character and concept of “addictive fear” in Resident Evil Requiem.
The first new entry in the Resident Evil series since 2021's Resident Evil Village, Requiem is set 30 years after a missile strike destroys Raccoon City, and follows a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an investigative reporter whoโs also the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from 2003โs Resident Evil Outbreak. Today's new overview from Capcom describes Grace Ashcroft as “introverted and easily scared”, setting her apart from previous Resident Evil protagonists like combat-trained agent Leon Kennedy or the savvy Jill Valentine.
Speaking of Leon Kennedy, fans have long speculated if the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 lead will return for Resident Evil Requiem in some capacity. Don't hold your breath for him to return as a lead though, as Nakanishi stresses Leon's hardened attitude towards the zombie apocalypse wouldn't fit well with their vision of Requiem leaning hard into the horror:
“We always thought about making Leon the protagonist, but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn't jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So he's actually quite a bad match for horror.
As we reported previously from our first look at the game out of Summer Games Fest, Resident Evil Requiem will allow fans to switch between first and third-person perspective, depending on your gaming preference, a feature that the Capcom team dive into in more detail in the new overview.
Resident Evil Requiem has an official release date of February 27, 2026 for PlayStation5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Watch Capcom's new look at Resident Evil Requiem below:
