Hype is high for Zach Cregger's multi-story horror Weapons thanks to a mysterious marketing campaign from Warner Bros. that just got even weirder with a promotional tie-in launching on Fortnite.

Per Variety, who revealed the news earlier today, the Weapons integration on Fortnite was developed by creative agency and production studio Sawhorse (Sinners: Survive the Night), and includes an โ€œ2:17 AMโ€ event occurring at the designated time in the UTC time zone. Sawhorse describes this as โ€œan eerie timestampโ€ that connects players to the filmโ€™s central mystery. Across the four available Fortnite modes, players will find in-game clues, creepy environments and time-based challenges to complete.

Releasing in theaters nationwide on August 8 via Warner Bros., Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams (also set to lead Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil adaptation), Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael, with โ€œa couple missing namesโ€ still to be revealed.

A vague logline for the multi-story horror epic reveals:

When all but one child from the same classroom mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

While we still have no idea what Weapons is really about, we can't imagine it's anything family-friendly enough for a game with a fanbase made up of plenty of teens and tweens. But hey, maybe the reason all those kids left home at 2:17am was to play Fortnite together – only time will tell.
