Tarantino fans may recognize Omar Doom from his roles in Inglourious Basterds and Death Proof. If you're not already aware, Doom also has a very cool goth music project, Straight Razor. Doom channels his cinematic storytelling into music, delivering a dark auditory experience. Since releasing the Straight Razor Vol.1 and Vol.2 EPs and founding Doom Vision Records in 2023, Doom has established himself as a force in the goth and Dark Wave music realms.
Doom's latest album via his Straight Razor endeavor titled Casualty is perhaps Doom's most personal release yet, delving into universal themes of anxiety and loss. The latest release from the album is titled “Suffering,” and Doom continues to push creative boundaries with a gorgeously gothic stop-motion animated music video.
Crafted by acclaimed animator Justin Burgos of Rough Nโ Tumble Productions, the video plunges viewers into a tragic, film-noir-inspired love story drenched in gothic romance and relentless dread. Here's more from the official press release:
At its core, โSufferingโ is a tale as old as timeโboy meets girl, love blossoms, and fate cruelly intervenes. But in true STRAIGHT RAZOR fashion, this isnโt a story with a happy ending. As the lovers navigate a desolate, shadow-drenched cityscape, they are trailed by an ominous, gooey, black massโa creeping force of inevitable doom. The tension builds until the lovers and their steadfast Doberman Pinscher meet a grisly fate in a finale that is as visually stunning as it is viscerally horrifying.
A masterclass in stop-motion horror noir, Burgosโ animation brings a uniquely textured, handcrafted quality to the bleak yet mesmerizing vision of the song. โSufferingโ seamlessly blends STRAIGHT RAZORโs brooding electronic intensity with a cinematic nightmare of blood, love, and loss, embodying the gothic fatalism that defines Omar Doomโs sonic world.
Get ready for a dark Valentine's gift, described as “a love story wrapped in darkness, where devotion is met with destruction.”
โThis song is about love and the inescapable pain that comes with it,” said Doom. “Justin Burgos took that concept and created something heartbreakingly beautifulโlike a doomed romance lost in a haunted dreamscape. The animation, the atmosphere, the horrorโitโs everything I imagined and more.โ
Are you ready to dance your dark little hearts out? Enjoy the beautifully nightmarish love story of “Suffering” below. Happy Valentine's Day.
