Ahead of the August 14 opening of the Las Vegas-based immersive year-round horror experience, Universal Destinations & Experiences has announced a second location for Universal Horror Unleashed in Chicago, Illinois, with NBCUniversal targeting a 2027 debut.
Per an official press release, this original concept combines Universalโs deep expertise in the horror genre with next-level storytelling to deliver a truly unforgettable experience:
The year-round concept will deliver immersive, horror-centric entertainment that goes beyond the theme parks, bringing spine-chilling thrills, terrifying environments, and unforgettable scares to guests. The horror will also extend to the food and beverage offerings, with themed craft cocktails and bites, as well as a retail location with unique collectible merchandise and more.
The new Universal Horror Unleashed location will be located across the street from the forthcoming Ballyโs Casino, in a 114,000-square-foot commercial building at 700 W. Chicago Avenue.
Page Thompson, president of new ventures for Universal Destinations & Experiences, has this to say of the Chicago-based haunt:
โUniversal Horror Unleashed delivers on our promise to create highly immersive and terrifying horror experiences that connect with fans year-round […] Weโre excited to bring this bold concept to life in Chicago, a city known for its vibrant culture. Weโre grateful for the city and stateโs support as we convert this dormant site into a unique attraction that showcases our storytelling expertise and ability to deliver mind blowing experiences that shatter guest expectations.โ
Universal Horror Unleashed's Las Vegas location is about to give horror fans the chance to get spooked in four haunted houses based on the Universal Monsters, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Exorcist: Believer, and Halloween Horror Nights fan favorite haunt, Scarecrow: The Reaping.
But Las Vegas and Chicago aren't the only places getting the Universal horror treatment – in addition to Horror Unleashed, Universal plans to open a smaller kids and family-focused theme park in Texas next year, following the May opening of Orlando's Epic Universe containing the FANGORIA-approved Dark Universe.
