A cherry on top of an excellent year for Alien fans (with Fede Alvarez's box office smash hit Alien: Romulus and the first teaser for Noah Hawley's series Alien: Earth) – a sequel to 2014's terrifying surival horror game Alien: Isolation is officially in early development.
Creative director of Alien: Isolation developer Creative Assembly Alistair Hope took to Twitter earlier today to share the exciting news, with a statement that read:
“It's been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams and steely courage in the face of cinema's greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding.
It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary. On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear. Today, I'm delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we're ready.”
The announcement comes as celebration of Alien: Isolation‘s tenth anniversary.
Published by Sega for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, Alien: Isolation was a massive, award-winning success and sold over 2 million copies in its first year alone.
The game, considered one of the scariest horror games of all time, is set 15 years after Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic original Alien, and follows Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda as she searches the wreck of a Xenomorph-infested space station for her missing mother.
Alien: Isolation‘s terrifyingly tense gameplay prioritized stealth, forward thinking and – most frighteningly – figuring out how to get past one of the slathering alien beasts without it clocking your presence.
While fans have long begged for an Alien: Isolation sequel, the project was originally not deemed financially feasible. Possibly due to the success of other horror game remakes such as Capcom's hugely successful Resident Evil redos and Bloober and Konami's surprisingly received Silent Hill 2, it seems Sega have had a change of heart.
Rest assured we will bring you all the updates on the Alien: Isolation sequel as they creep in.
