Magic: The Gathering is going all out science fiction with their new set, Edge of Eternities. And what do you find in outer space? Aliens! And this set is full of them.

We previously reported on their horror set Duskmourn, which is the set that got me back into playing the game. And while all of their sets may not be horror, there are always cards that lean into the genre, and Edge of Eternities is no exception. Taking a look at some of the cards already debuted by Wizards includes Chrome Host Seedshark (a flying shark!), some Phyrexian horrors, a Plant Wurm that looks like a cosmic version of Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors, and they’re even bringing back the classic Ancient Tomb! The set also returns a classic creature type, Slivers, which resemble Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Fans of sci-fi horror are going to have a blast with this set, and we have two new cards to debut that include an alien jellyfish and a sorcery involving your graveyard.

First up, we have the blue/red Jellyfish Advisor alien Mm’menon, Uthros Exil. An uncommon Legendary Creature with flying and the ability “whenever an artifact you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.” This card has a lot of potential in this set with all of the new artifacts in Edge of Eternities. I could even make the case for making this Jellyfish alien a commander for some casual play. I am just going to assume it’s a relative of Jean Jacket from Nope.

Mm’menon, Uthros Exile. Legendary Creature - Jellyfish Advocate.

Next up, we have a green sorcery with some graveyard play, Pull Through the Weft. For two green and three colorless mana, you “return up to two target nonland permanent cards from your graveyard to your hand, then return up to two land cards from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.” It’s a bit expensive to play, but in a deck with green mana, that shouldn’t be a problem, and you get a lot for what you pay. Bring two creatures or artifacts back to your hand and two lands to the battlefield! If you have a landfall deck, this is an easy addition.

Magic: The Gathering’s Edge of Eternities releases on August 1, 2025. Keep your eyes open for pre-release events at your local comic and card shops.
