the last day of h.p. lovecraft

BOOM! Studios has great news for cosmic horror fans this week. FANGORIA is excited to announce that the comics imprint is bringing the hit French graphic novel The Last Day of H.P. Lovecraft to life for English language readers with a new miniseries adaptation that puts a terrifying twist on the final days of the controversial horror pioneer.

Written by Romauld Giulivo with art by Jakub Rebelka, the graphic novel was originally released in 2023 in France, and follows the โ€œ final journey of a complex and tortured man facing his choices, his writings, and his wrongs at the very last moment of his life.โ€ The new edition will also feature variant covers by acclaimed illustrators Ben Stenbeck, John Pearson, and Suspiria Vilchez.

While this is, of course, a fictionalized account of the last hours of Lovecraftโ€™s life โ€” he died in March 1937 at the age of forty-six โ€” itโ€™s just one of many projects honoring the legacy of who many consider the father of cosmic horror. Writers like Stephen King and Alan Moore have cited the author as a major influence on their work, and his specific genre of horror (appropriately dubbed Lovecraftian horror) has been explored in films like From Beyond and Re-Animator

The Last Day of H.P. Lovecraft is the latest in a long line of acclaimed series produced by BOOM! Studios, which also lays claim to projects like Keanu Reevesโ€™ BRZRKR, Tom Kingโ€™s Animal Pound, Jeff Lemireโ€™s Minor Arcana, and more. They're also responsible for numerous licensed comic series, including Dune: House Corrino, Power Rangers Prime, and The Expanse: Dragon Tooth.

The Last Day of H.P. Lovecraft #1 will hit shelves in comic stores on September 17, as well as being available digitally, and is available for pre-order now. Check out an exclusive sneak peek of the first issue below:
