M3GAN 2.0 might not have exactly have slayed the box office, but the killer android is looking to take over your television from tomorrow, July 15, when the Blumhouse sequel hits Digital with a 4K UHD and Blu-ray release to follow on September 23.
Those who like their android carnage a little bloodier can also enjoy the M3GAN 2.0 Unrated version when purchased from participating retailers, which reportedly comes upgraded with gorier moments “too intense for the theater”.
Included extra features on the physical and Digital release of M3GAN 2.0 are 30 minutes of exclusive bonus content including scene breakdowns and a behind-the-scenes look at rebuilding M3GAN when you purchase from participating digital retailers nationwide including Apple TV, Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox, and Microsoft Movies & TV.
Director Gerard Johnstone returns for M3GAN 2.0, with horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster and Jason Blum for Blumhouse producing. Allison Williams (Get Out), Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) and Amie Donald and Jenna Davis, as M3GAN's body and voice respectively, all return for the sequel, with Ivanna Sakhno (Star Wars Ahsoka series), joining as a newfound threat to M3GAN's reign of terror:
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Sakhno), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around. With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.
Also starring in M3GAN 2.0 are Jen Van Epps (M3GAN), Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live, Hacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, What We Do in the Shadows).
