Horror icon David Dastmalchian is taking another trip into the world of supernatural graphic novels. FANGORIA is excited to partner with Z2 Comics to announce that the Boogeyman star and Count Crowley writer will be releasing a new graphic novel, titled Through, which is available for pre-order right now.
Written by Dastmalchian, with art by Cat Staggs, colors by DC Alonso, and a handpainted cover by David Mack, the 140-page graphic novel will be available in both a deluxe edition and a signed platinum edition, the latter of which comes with art prints, a set of Focus Cards, and a metal pin featuring a symbol from the book. Both are available on Z2โs website for pre-order, and the standard trade edition is available wherever graphic novels are sold. The bookโs synopsis is as follows:
Through is the story of Alix, a young woman driven by a compulsive need to control the world around her. After a near-death experience, sheโs thrust into a labyrinthine realm cloaked in shadows and populated by fantastical creatures, where she is stunned to discover that this mysterious land has been constructed solely for her… A kingdom to rule? Or a prison? As danger closes in, threatening complete obliteration, she must decipher the clues that reveal the true nature of this realm in order to save both the landโฆ and herself.
โThrough is a story inspired by an idea that a dear friend and I hatched when I was living in Chicago and fascinated by outsider artists like Henry Darger,โ Dastmalchian said. โOver the years the story evolved into a labyrinthine mystery that overlapped with my own ongoing struggle for mental wellness. As I dove into the challenging but healing therapeutic work of understanding the myriad parts of myself, this story began to flourish. While fighting for my life, Through became the book I needed to write and the most important tale Iโve ever attempted to tell.โ
To celebrate the release of the graphic novel, the team behind through โ including Dastmalchian, Staggs, Mack, and editor Rantz Hoseley, will appear at this yearโs San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, during a panel about the storyโs development in Room 6DE of the San Diego Convention Center at 5:45 p.m. PT. Dastmalchian will also appear as a featured guest that same night at Z2 and Fandomโs party at the Hard Rock Cafe, and will be signing at Z2โs booth on July 25th at 1 p.m. PT.
โGetting to work on Through has been both fun and challenging, involving the depiction of Chicago's cold winter and an imaginative ‘other world,' along with exploring different art styles, and DC Alonso brings them together with his colors,โ says Staggs. โDavid's wonderful story makes this journey even more exciting, and I look forward to everyone reading it.โ
Through is available for pre-order now.
