Below youโ€™ll find a series of interior artwork, as well as various covers for Falling Sun, which hits shelves in October. It hails from writer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia, Batman: Full Moon) and artist Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter, The Autumnal), with the book kicking off in the form of an oversized first issue.

Many people came to 30 Days of Night through the 2007 movie, but the franchise started life as a miniseries written by Steve Niles, illustrated by Ben Templesmith, which was first published by IDW in 2002. It takes place in the isolated town of Barrow, Alaska where the sun doesnโ€™t shine for 30 days, making it the perfect mark for vampires. As for what this new chapter in the saga is all about? The synopsi for the book reads as followsโ€ฆ

โ€œThe town of Barrow has moved on. Those who remember the vampiric terror of two decades past would rather not talk about it. Those who donโ€™t remember donโ€™t believe the stories. Ignorance will be their downfall, because a dark memory is stirring in the heart of Romania and it has set its sights on Barrow, the death place of Vicente. While vampires seek revenge for their fallen leader in Alaska, troubled teen Jalen James seeks sanctuary. After fleeing gang violence in Los Angeles, Jalen needs a fresh start. But heโ€™s unlikely to find it as the sun fallsโ€ฆโ€

“I'm so happy to be working with Steve, IDW, and the characters from the legendary world of 30 Days of Night!โ€ Barnes said. โ€œWe have an incredible story lined up that adds to the established mythology while taking the story in some surprising directions. I can't wait to see what you, the fans, think.”

IDW has been doubling down on horror has of late, with the IDW Dark imprint home to comics in the worlds of A Quiet Place, Smile, The Twilight Zone, Sleepy Hollow and Event Horizon. The publisher also recently launched a new Godzilla shared universe dubbed the Kai-Sei era with the release of Godzilla #1. So this continuation of 30 Days of Night fits right in with the companyโ€™s larger push into horror.

โ€œI was a fan of the series when I was maybe 17. Approaching my mid-thirties and being able to add a little bit of myself to this story and world with a writer I admire has been a dream,โ€ Shehan added.

30 Days of Night: Falling Sun #1 hits shelves on October 15. For more, get the lowdown on all of the horror panels to keep an eye during this weekendโ€™s San Diego Comic-Con
