The scripts for game-changing post-apocalyptic video game duology The Last Of Us: Part I and Part II are heading to bookstore shelves, as PlayStation-owned video game developer Naughty Dog and Dark Horse Books are teaming up for a 618-page hardcover book.
Per Variety, who exclusively revealed the news earlier today, the book, titled The Last of Us: Part I and Part II Scripts, will feature the scripts for the first two games, released in 2013 and 2020, respectively, as well as the 2014 standalone expansion โLeft Behind.โ
Variety also that the will also feature a foreword written by Troy Baker (Joel's voice actor), an art gallery with work by developer Naughty Dogโs principal character concept artist Hyoung Nam, as well as a “buckram-textured cover with new art and block printing along the pagesโ edges that evokes the franchiseโs iconic Cordyceps fungus.โ
The Last of Us: Part I and โLeft Behindโ were written by Naughty Dog studio chief and head of creative Neil Druckmann, who co-created (and recently stepped down from) HBOโs The Last of Us adaptation with Craig Mazin, while Part II was written by Druckmann and screenwriter Halley Gross (Westworld).
In a joint statement from Naughty Dog and Dark Horse:
โRelive every climactic moment in The Last of Us: Part I and Part II Scripts, from Joel and Ellieโs time with Tess in Boston, to Ellieโs joy while petting giraffes, to Joelโs heart-wrenching decision at the Firefliesโ hospital in The Last of Us Part I. Then, dive into The Last of Us Part IIโs dual-perspective story, including Abbyโs shocking introduction, Ellie and Dina forging a bond together, an enthralling encounter with the Rat King, and the final showdown between Ellie and Abby.โ
Season 3 of the Emmy Award-winning show is currently in the works, and is set to be led by previously supporting star Kaitlyn Dever who will move to the forefront in her role as vengeful soldier Abby.
The Last of Us: Part I and Part II Scripts is currently available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and local comic shops and bookstores, and will be released in bookstores on December 16 and comic shops on December 17.
